The Human Rights Council is holding its 57th regular session in Geneva from September 9–October 9, 2024. You may watch the Council sessions on UN TV. The reports of the meetings will be posted on the UN Geneva website and the dynamic work schedule on Sched.

The Human Rights Council (HRC) includes environmental problems in a number of its side events and agenda topics.

The primary environmental focus of the September meetings of the Council is often toxics and human rights, accompanied by the Special Rapporteur’s yearly report to the HRC. Both the Indigenous Peoples’ rights and the human right to water and sanitation are environmental rights that are addressed by their respective United Nations Special Procedures, as well as in interactive discussions with governments, non-governmental organisations, international organisations, and national human rights agencies.

The Geneva Environment Network and its partners organised an information-sharing workshop with the goal of fostering greater collaboration among stakeholders and improving awareness to the environmental agenda of HRC57, including the concurrent events. During this gathering, information about upcoming environmental events at HRC57 and nearby was exchanged, along with details on books, exhibitions, and in-person and online gatherings. Potential synergies were also addressed.
